Site Preparation
- Select an area which is FIRM, LEVEL, STABLE and free draining.
- Ensure that the site area is free from any sharp objects such as stones and roots.
- Do not place the tank on beams or a wooden pallet with interval spaces.
- If the location is on a sloping section ensure that the mounting site, surrounding the area is level and will remain free from any erosion in the future.
- When lifting the tank use all lifting lugs and never lift the tank with water in it. A 7500 Litre tank weighs 175kg when empty and 7800kg +/- when full.
- A compacted sand bedding area of at least 100mm deep is required which is retained so that the sand cannot wash away.
- There should be a minimum sand base of at least 250mm more on either side of the tank as in the figure below.
- It is preferable that the tank is not buried however if it is unavoidable than the maximum depth must not exceed 1/3 of the tanks side wall height.
- The tank can be placed on a smooth concrete surface however the pad must be constructed to handle the weight of the tank when full. Failure to do so will result in the concrete cracking which will provide an uneven surface and unnecessarily stress the tank.
- Take care with the preparation of the site area and when handling the tank. Once in place inspect around the bottom of the tank to ensure that there is no gaps between the surface and tank.
Installation
- When installing the tank ensure that all pipe work from the tank is supported. It is important not to allow the weight of the pipe work to rest on the wall of the tank without being fully supported.
- A flexible hose must be installed between the out let fitting and pipe. This provides less stress on the tank fittings by allowing for pump vibration, surging and expansion and contraction of the tank.
- Water pumps must not be directly installed to the side of the tank.
- Air and water must be able to escape at the same rate as the water is being pumped in or out to avoid a possible internal pressure or vacuum.
- Pipe the overflow away from the foundation to prevent erosion
- A 1/2 " - 3" fitting of your choice is spun welded 75mm from the bottom of the tank. We recommend that thread tape be used on all fittings to avoid leaks which could lead to possible erosion and under mining of the tank foundation. Do not over tighten fittings when installing in to the tank.
- Do not back fill against the tank andDo Not Bury the Tank.

- It is essential to have your water tank on a FLAT LEVEL COMPACTED BASE. The base of your water tank must be fully supported at all times. Ensure the platform for the tank is on solid (compacted), stable (free draining) ground.
- Ensure that the site area is free from any sharp objects such as stones and roots.
- Do not place the tank on beams or a wooden pallet with interval spaces.
- If the location is on a sloping section ensure that the mounting site, surrounding the area is level and will remain free from any erosion in the future.

- There should be a minimum sand base of at least 250mm more on either side of the tank refer to Figure 1.
- For maximum length of use locate your tank in a shady area that will also help keep the water cool.
- Once placed in position, ensure that there are no visible gaps between the bedding sand and bottom of the tank. If so, fill the gaps.
- Owners are advised not to enclose tanks following installation.
- Do not allow children/adults to walk on tank domes or lids. They are not made for walking on and may pose a safety threat.
- If livestock will have access to the tank, the area surrounding the tank must be fenced to a minimum of 1.0 meter from the tank.
- ALL tanks must be fitted with an overflow pipe of a minimum 75mm diameter and in any case not less than the diameter of the inlet. In ALL installations, the overt of the overflow must be lower than the overt of the inlet pipe to allow the overflow to operate prior to the tank overfilling.
- The overflow must be piped at least 300mm away from the foundation to where sand and soil are not likely to be eroded, causing damage to the foundation material at the base of the tank.
- Stabilizing wires must secure the tank to the ground in areas prone to strong or gusty winds, particularly where the water level in the tank may vary considerably.
- Regular maintenance of the overflow must be completed to ensure that blockages do not occur.
- Where all other criteria relating to the installation and site preparation have been met, 1000 liters + tanks may be buried up to a maximum of 500mm.
- In the instance the tank is to be located on an elevated structure (i.e., deck or tower) an engineer’s report must be made available to the tank manufacturer, prior to installation, for approval.
- Tanks exceeding the inlets and overflows of the tank must be cut out with a hole-saw in the designated areas. All external pipe work must be fully supported. Do not allow weight of suspended pipe work to rest on the wall of tank without being adequately supported.
- Other than in the designated reinforced portions in the top of the tank, do not cut any holes or mount any fixture in the tank walls or domed roof, without Plastic Systems written approval.
- BSPT (tapered) fittings must be used when connecting to the outlet. Any alterations to outlet size must be done by the manufacturer.
- To compensate for expansion and contraction of the tank, and/or any pump vibration/surging, or pressure variance, a flexible hose or pipe must be placed between the outlet fitting and supply line to the pump as close as possible to the tank.
- The area surrounding the tank must be fenced to a minimum of 1.0 meter from the tank, In areas where livestock have access to the tank, to avoid any damage.
- Where 2 or 4 lifting points are provided, ensure all lifting points are used to lift the tank. Failure to do so will cause damage to the tank and void the warranty.

- Do not back fill against the tank andDo Not Bury the Tank.
- INSPECT THE BASE REGULARLY checking for, and rectifying, any undermining by water run-off or animals borrowing. It is advisable to bury wire mesh to a minimum depth of 600mm in a narrow trench around the foundation perimeter, where burrowing animals are present.
- The foundation will probably settle slightly. The polyethylene is sufficiently elastic to conform to the ground shape without damage to the tank. However erosion of the bedding sand from around the wall edges must be replaced and the cause of such erosion eliminated or minimized. This could cause failure of the tank and void the warranty.
- Ensure that the overflow pipe never becomes blocked as excessive pressure could build up inside the tank. This could cause failure of the tank and void the warranty.
FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THE SITE PREPARATION, INSTALLATION & MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS WILL INVALIDATE THE WARRANTY.
